Scott Clark says:

It’s amazing that 99% of armature golfers do not know this. It took me
about three years to really understand this nugget and trust it. Went from
15 handicap to +2 in a year once I understood this golf principle. Great
explanation!?

Peter Albertsson says:

Finally someone who gets it!

Amazing how many people are confused about this. Clearly if you don’t get
this you got no chance at golf.?

Charles Austin says:

are you freaking kidding me i’ve been doing this shit wrong lol?

Claus R. Povlsen says:
ZeppelinFan70 says:

definite gem here. ?

hardcoremofo says:

Now how do I do it simultaneous where my club won’t swing to the inside??

kosdna says:

i wish i had known about this when i started…all this time wasted
swinging the arms back and all

stephen k says:

@sk8rdaniel THose who cannot execute a full shoulder swing, simply shorten
your swing. 90% of your power should come from 2 feet on both sides of the
ball. That is why they say accelerate through the ball. Obvious why that is
a tenet. People need to understand that you don’t need to bring your arms
past shoulder height. Let your wrists do the work to parallel. And this is
why you need to be VERY realaxed from the top.

julian bosi says:

lmao i just keep my left arm straight and take it back.. and its perfectly
on plane

FitFast8 says:

Takeaway with a little arm lift, then arm lift and bend combined with
shoulder turn to the top, so they finish their movement at about the same
time. Checking the swing is on plane will help you with the combination of
how much of each.

jaw0426 says:

Explaining it by splitting it up was perfect. Thanks so much!

Dreama40 says:

I think this is great advice! if i could just add one thought that may
help, try to focus on your thumbs pointing upwards as you make your turn,
this will give you the same arm action Steve is explaining here but will
assist in helping you feel what your doing, so try to blend the shoulder
turn and thumbs up simultaneously, should get you on the perfect plane,
works for me anyway :) goodluck….

Dreama40 says:

Ok i tried this again today and crunched my opening drive around 290-300
dead straight!!!(not kidding) best part it felt effortless! I actually
lifted the club up in front of myself(as he does in the clip but i made it
part of my preshot waggle if you like, (2 lifts in front to train the arm
action, then set up to swing and just focused on making a good turn knowing
that my arm action would be just as i had rehearsed in my preshot waggle,
it was AMAZING!!!! 2 lifts in front, set, turn, bam..

Dan Hamel says:

i love you

BandanaP says:

This is easily one of the best if not the best golf tips on Youtube

Samuel Hudson says:

nice thanks

pensiontransfer says:

Classic !

David Burrows says:

I don’t agree you swing around your body to help transfer your weight,
shifting your weight is a vital for power and consistent crisp strikes.

stephen k says:

@andrewcay1 The best advice I can give to you is SWING HARD! Learn to hit
the ball. It might take longer, however, you make small incremental
adjustments to everything. From grip to follow through. But, they should be
SMALL! Only small changes once you learn what needs changing.

hogan1948 says:

This is gold….

Andres Caycedo says:

This guy just explained in 2 minutes what nobody else has been able to tell
me in about 1 year….no wonder why it’s been so difficult trying to figure
out what the hell is wrong with my swing, I was thinking about it the wrong
way!!

diffonyahoo says:

I understand what you are saying but it is important for anyone to not
commit the mistake of turning the shoulders too soon , as most amateurs
would tend to do , because they want to hit the ball with all their might.
The reason I like the hips starting a moment before the shoulders is that
it 1. clears the hips out of the way to let the shoulders swing freely and
2. creates a separation momentarily between the hips and the shoulderswhich
add to some valuable distance.

eatyourfailcakes says:

i was just looking at zach johnsons swing sequence and i was thinking the
exact same thing. amazing timing to be looking at such a great lesson

AlexH09 says:

nice, gonna try and use this tip today

Bianca Ng says:

This is a great tip for a backswing..However, does the reverse apply on the
down swing? That is the arms swing down to the original address position?

Dreama40 says:

Great lesson but the missing link seems to be “how to get the proper
blending of the shoulders turning and arms lifting” he even said that
himself in the video if you listen carefully! My guess is that everything
turns away from the ball “together” ie one piece takeaway and then at waste
high the arms begin to lift and the shoulders complete their turn to
90degrees, Or do the arms lift off the chest at the same precise time that
the shoulders begin to turn(thus blending the 2) any thoughts??

garantor2k says:

this is the best tip i’ve had since starting golf 3 mo ago. Thanks man!

mcnaugam says:

Over complicated. The arms should be connected to the shoulder and chest
turn. They should feel like ropes that go along for the ride. Just keep
your upper arms connected to your pecs and turn your shoulder and you’ll
get a good backswing position. Introducing independent arms swing will make
consistency difficult. I don’t try and lift my arms and somehow magically
they still get into the air above my shoulder!

Lee (formerly Cahnt) says:

Sorry, but Lee Trevino and Freddie Couples don’t swing like that. Haha,
only kidding, i know Bann is exagerating for effect. Seriously, this is a
great tip. It helped me understand the new backswing path my pro was
teaching me yesterday. Thanks for posting.

Edevard Hvide says:

So simple and obvious once you know it!!! Brilliant tip!

Loren Trujillo says:

Duh! Now I get it! Thank up, thank you, thank you! Now the “wrist uncocking
or cocking for that matter makes sense. I’m cocking them up and down but
swing arms “horizontally”

Eddie B says:

He pointed out an illusion in the back swing….he didn’t give any “tip”
whatsoever. He just used a lot of swing jargon but taught us nothing.
That’s what they all do, at 50 bucks a half hour….think about it. If they
ever did make a club that hit it straight, or if ONE guy ever taught THE
lesson to help you hit it straight every time, then the bottom would fall
out of the industry. No more need for golf shops or golf pros….this will
NEVER happen. Too much money involved.

chubbspet says:

I’m sure this is the kind of tip a teacher won’t give away until you have
signed up for lessons, because it really changes a lot of golfers whole
perspective about the swing…

stephen k says:

FWIW, you have to combine the two simultaneously. Especially with the
driver tee shot. A FLAT takeaway will start your torso and lower body in
that swivel and just let the club dictate what your body does. At the top,
simply reverse the motion. You have to do this in relaxed fashion. But, in
the perfect golf swing, the combination of the two motions completes the
pure striking golf swing.

juicyfruitzy says:

whatan epiphany! I kept doing exactly what he mentioned….copying what I
saw on tv. I thought the pros were really moving their arms straight back.
I knew this was not the correct method because when I did it I would end
too far on the inside. Thank you so much!!!!

ambrachiara says:

Bravissimo! The best and simplest tip ever!!! There is lot of confusion on
golf, It seems like someone wants to make it very complicated, but it is
only the right technique. Thank you, thank you so much. I am going out and
try it right away!

Skyboxer says:

The results determine the quality of this video and that = Great Video. I
have made much more consistent striking via this video. Absolutely not over
complicated at all. In fact it simplifies and makes the transition so much
better and consistent.

babyherc says:

Exactly I tried this last week at a 9 hole muni course and I was laughing
at how much of a difference it was. For the first time ever I hit 6 out of
7 greens on the par 3s for this course.

DaveLeeNC says:

FWIW, this is a description of a 2 plane swing. If you use a 1-plane swing
your ‘arm lift’ will be up and to the right rather than just up.

Christopher Dobbs says:

What a great lesson! I’ve played golf since I was very young and I never
thought about the swing like that. That completely changes my perspective.
Thanks!

ptasker83 says:

Agreed, this is a tip that would help many people starting out in golf

sonicdeviant says:

Fantastic lesson. Thank you sir!!!

schalch08 says:

easiest way possible..
