The left arm separating from the body is a very common thing in long drive
swings. It becomes almost necessary at swing speeds that high. Its a matter
of avoiding injury, not a swing fault (for him)
Not sure why you think its a necessity for him or other golfers. Never
heard of that before. In Jamie’s case… his ‘hockey’ background (I
understand his slap shot was RIDICULOUSLY fast) has created this habit. His
left arm impact position has ‘slap shot’ written all over it in his
