Aaron Potts says:

When I throw a thumber? I use my avenger elite z or a groove. I like it cause I tend to flip alot of my mid ranged discs. I use it to make up for my lack of a mid ranged game. and it has helped me with that issue. I have not had a hole in one, but I have got a birdie by throwing a thumber. Great vid very informative. I will have to try to get my hands on a flick.

Michael Jordt says:

On my course there is one hole that there is a dogpark on one side and a parking lot on the other side of the fairway. It just gets on my nerves when the dogs poop in the fairway and the owners dont pick it up. And also there are those people oblivious to where they are and have no idea that they are in a? fairway!

Amanda Mira says:

1:54 lost your strength on that one….I hate it when I practice so? much I literally can’t walk ….but dedication bro. Thanks for these.

Ken Smith says:

I’ve had 2 Flicks and I loved the first one but HATED the? second. Luckily I lost it. Haha.

Anyways, I generally throw my thumbers with a Champion Boss or Star Katana. Occasionally an Elize Z Nuke. I just recently got my first ace and it was with a thumber with the Champion Boss!

matt homan says:

kudos on the z flick i have 1 that just for thumbers and? tomahawks and it works amazing also it works great for a super overstabel midrange

airjomax21 says:

Big john if you extended your arm more over the shoulder it will be even more accurate and you can get out to about 300 ft …. also the flick is a great disc. but you will find some that are dudes. I have notices that with flicks are some wont pan out like they should for whatever reason… I hit? my first ace in the snow in MN with a tommy opposite of a thumber and it is quite a bit more consistent in flight than a thumber as far as the line goes

daBmV says:

thx 4 explanation.? not that good in terminology :o)

beatz1982 says:

that would be called a tomahawk. In this video the thumb is your pressure point of release on the inside of the wing.? A tomahawk your middle finger is your pressure point of release.

daBmV says:

as well what really DOES matter for this shots is the angle (someone mentioned that? already) which you throw it. you showed / described what happens when the disc is thrown perfectly upright. But you can throw it almost flat which does affect the flight significantly (basically you almost skip the first turning phase). I would say that mastering this can be very useful.

daBmV says:

actually this throw is quite common in ultimate, but I use it in DG a lot once I need to get over some obstacle (high bush for example, or through some branches tunnel). what surprised me though is the grip. I should call my throw a “middle-fingerer” as i hold the disk opposite way. thumb on the top and two fingers “in” it. I would say it gives me more control. Comments appreciated, I will give it a try with this grip and get back to? you (hopefullly) :o)

Ryan Otis says:

i? just got done playing 27 holes ( i went -10 btw) and i drove a disc straight into the woods, abou 50 feet from the hole, and i thought id try out what you said in this video, and it worked!! :) i had to throw it straight up but it landed about 10 feet from the pin for an easy birdie, thats for the video (:

beatz1982 says:

Generally yes but it also depends on his release angle. What he was throwng in the vids is more of a hook thumber. He starts? the disc at an angle of release so it flips over faster. However like you said if it was a vertical release yes it take slightly longer for it to flip over.

Chad Jahnke says:

I’ve seen a tomahawk fly over a bunch of trees and hit right on top of the basket which was pretty cool I’ve seen a different? grip for the thumber you wrap ur pointer finger under the disc to get more force between ur thumb n finger

Joshua Blank says:

Overstable discs take longer to “curve” or turn in? the air, which gives you more distance, understable discs flip faster, so you saying you throw overstable for thumbers because you need them to “curve fast” is incorrect..

apaztick says:

Discs good for Thumbers
Elite? Z Nuke OS [if you got the arm and hands for it]
Elite Z Flick [my personal favorite]
Champion Ape [ if you love Innova and nothing else]
Elite Z Crush
Star Max
Champion Monster
Champion Firebird [ Slower Innova similar to flick?]
Basically you want something overstable, X/(1-4)/(1-0)/3+, or for discraft +2.0

apaztick says:

Also, If you have an instagram, I generally post all disc golf stuff there. @erthbndr. I do a #DiscOfTheDay type thing, where you just use the hashtag and? post what your disc of the day is. Basically something that surprised you, or you didn’t expect to be so well for you that day. OR just to promote the discs you love and use everyday.

apaztick says:

Big John! I can help out with? thumbers! Adding a run up (LHBH xstep) you can add some distance to it. It also helps to throw it at a 45° angle depending on where you’re aiming it. Also with thumbers, you need a follow through or you can seriously hurt yourself. I always suggest stretching the arm, and swinging it a couple times. Towel Stretches

For the run up, 4step run up. (starting left of teepad) Right foot, left foot, xstep(during this you should be in your back swing), then plant step.

Ryan Otis says:

Star? Katana*

Ryan Otis says:

ive got a few different drives, ive got the Nate? Doss Titanium nuke Ti, a millenium, a start katana, and an Avenger SS, would any of these be good for thumbers?

Pauly888231 says:

I’ve never thrown it so? far but I’m about to

Chris Hardison says:

I think a complement to this video could be a beginner? video about throwing tomahawks.

Chris Hardison says:

That’s something that i haven’t really tried except for just playing around. I tend to lean on a? tomahawk more, but I’m going to try those.

Dominic Davis says:

Nice tip, I’ve got a hole very similar to that on my home course, never thought about using a thumber, gonna have to give it? a try tomorrow.

gerbil84ak says:

I’ve been playing for almost two years, and I’m barely? starting to learn tomohawks, which is the same as thumbers except for the grip. Any tips for gaining more distance??

embbu2 says:

If possible you could try to put like an arrow or something to follow the disc as it flies because its hard some times to see the disc? flying
